China (Quanzhou) 4th International Puppetry Festival will be held in Quanzhou,Chinafrom November 8 to 14, 2015. This event is held by the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China and The People’s Government of Fujian Province. Undertaken by Fujian Provincial Department of Culture, the People’s Government of Quanzhou, UNIMA China and the People’s Government of Jinjiang.

This festival is a very important event in the 14th Asia Art festival, there will be Puppet and Shadow performances and theoretical discussions during the festival.

A Brief Introduction of Quanzhou

Quanzhou is located in the middle on the west coast of China. It is one of the renowned historic cities of cultural significance in China made public in the first batch by the State Council. Quanzhou is verified by the UNESCO as the departure port of the ancient ‘Maritime Silk Route’. In 2002, Quanzhou was designated by the UNESCO as the first ‘Exhibition Center for Multi-culture of the World’. In 2013, Quanzhou was regarded as the first “Cultural City of Oriental Asia” in China. In 2012, Quanzhou Puppet Troupe was inscribed on the UNESCO Outstanding Practice List of Safeguarding the Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Quanzhou is a well known “Home of Puppetry Art” in the world, and the string puppets and hand puppets are outstanding puppetry art renowned in China and even in the world. Quanzhou city has successively hosted three “China (Quanzhou) International Puppetry Festival” in 1986, 1992, and 2000.
