China Puppet & Shadow Art Society was established in Beijing on December 29, 1980, with the status of an independent legal person. It is a national industry association engaged in puppet & shadow art performance, exhibition, teaching and research. The headquarters is now located in Chengdu.

Under the administration and guidance of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People's Republic of China and the supervision and administration of the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the China Puppet & Shadow Art Society is a national professional academic organization dedicated to the development and prosperity of puppet & shadow art .

China Puppet & Shadow Art Society adheres to the principles and policies of the Central government on culture and art, unites the national puppet and shadow artists, conducts research and practice on the protection, inheritance, innovation and development of the Chinese puppet and shadow art, and strives to improve the level of Chinese puppet and shadow art and to prosper and develop the Chinese puppet and shadow art .

China Puppet & Shadow Art Society closely contacts academic organizations and performance groups of puppet and shadow art all over the country, assists the cultural authorities of the government to carry out various activities in order to promote the inheritance and development of Chinese puppet & shadow art. The Chinese national treasure with a history of more than 2,000 years will be full of youthful vitality and make contributions to the cultural exchanges between China and other countries and the construction of socialist spiritual civilization.
