Since founded in 1956, Guangdong Puppetry Art Troupe Co., Ltd. (formerly Guangdong Puppet Troupe) created and performed more than 300 puppetry shows and pantomime of actors and puppets, and was awarded in several competitions and professional performances at home and abroad. Among their performances, the “Lotus Fairy” was filmed to be the first puppetry color film in China; the “The Monkey King Thrice Borrows the Palm-leaf Fan” was awarded Silver Medal while attending the 2nd International Puppets Festival in Romania; the “Highlights of Chinese Lingnan Puppetry” was awarded “Best Art Special Award” of 2nd International Puppetry Festival in Prague, The Czech Republic; the “Long Silk Dance” was granted “Best actor”; the “Ugly Duck” was granted “Best Repertoire” in Shanghai International Children’s Plays Festival; the “Real and Fake Monkey” was awarded” Best Repertoire” in Shanghai 1st International Puppet Festival; the “Nezha Conquers the Dragon King”, “Real and Fake Monkey”, “Long Silk Dance” and “The Legend of Five Sheep” won prizes of “Best Repertoire”, “Best Performance”, and “Puppet Figure Design Award”; the people and puppets pantomime “Eight and Half Floors” won prize of “Outstanding Award” when participated in 6th Performance of National Children’s Excellent Shows and “Wenhua Special Award” in 9th Art Festival of China.
The troupe had been invited to give performances in Hong Kong and Macau areas for several times, and to visit more than 20 countries, such as America, Romania, Former Soviet Union, Spain, Australia, Britain, France, and Germany.
It is very typical Lingnan character that the carving style of puppets is. So the puppets were given as gifts to Royal Family of Cambodia, Japan, Russia, France, America, Germany, The Czech Republic, Hungary and more than 20 countries, UNIMA national centers and international puppet museums as collections.
The troupe unswervingly adheres to pass down and develop the Chinese Lingnan Puppetry, wholeheartedly serves the art creation for children and juvenile, and constantly improves the development of puppetry art. Guangdong Puppetry Art Troupe Co., Ltd. is one of the founding troupes of UNIMA China.
