Founded in April, 1956, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Puppet Troupe is a professional art performance troupe at municipality level directly subordinate to Department of Culture of Guangxi Province, as well as one of professional puppet performance troupes with strong comprehensive strength in China.
Since its foundation, the troupe has strived to inherit and develop the traditional rod puppet art with long history. Besides, the troupe has created a number of excellent puppetry repertoires by collecting, classifying and inheriting traditional repertoires positively. The representative works have won awards in National Puppet and Shadow Shows Competition and International Puppet Festivals include: the large myth puppetry “Red Kid”, five-scene puppet ballet “The Little Mermaid”, classic puppet national dance collection “New Puppetry”, etc. For example, the troupe won the golden prizes in the 2nd and the 3rd National Puppet and Shadow Shows Competitions, and won Best Performance Award and Award of Children’s Favorite Puppetry in the sixth Prague Puppet Arts Festival.
The troupe has given performances throughout the country. Especially in recent years, its performances have been more prosperous due to the promotion of high-quality repertoires. Furthermore, the troupe has won vaster market and audiences through constant practice and improvements. The troupe has given performances in various countries such as Vietnam, Japan, Singapore, Cambodia, Thailand, and India for various times on invitation. Recently, the troupe was highly praised by leaders, artists, and audiences of various countries while the troupe participated in the China-Thailand Spring Festival Art performance Activities in Thailand for successive three years on behalf of the country, and participated in the 60th Anniversary for the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between China and India and China Culture Year Art Performance in India.
