Founded in 1957, the Yangzhou Puppet Troupe in Yangzhou of China has inherited the long-standing, magnificent and mystical tradition of Chinese puppet performance art. With over 100 players and staffs, Yangzhou Puppet Troupe can perform more than 10 great puppetry plays and over 40 middle and small repertoires. The repertories with attractive plots are suitable for both children and adults. With fine and smooth performance style, the puppet in the troupe can perform complex behaviors and imitate subtle expressions, which have really acted better than real person.
Yangzhou Puppet is listed in the national intangible cultural heritage safeguarding projects. “Fringed Iris Fairy” won prizes from the Ministry of Culture including the eighth “Wenhua New Play”, “Wenhua Performance Award”, “Wenhua Director Award”, “Wenhua Music Creativity Award”, and “Excellent Repertory” in the 6th Chinese Arts Festival. “Snow White” won the “First Prize for Excellent Repertory” in the fifth theater festival, and Exquisite Repertory in the Project of the Exquisite Technique of stagecraft in Jiangsu Province. Furthermore, “Snow White” was awarded for the “Golden Prize” in the 3rd Golden Lion National Puppet and Shadow Shows Competition.
With good reputation in China and foreign countries, Yangzhou Puppet Troupe has been dispatched to over 40 countries and areas in Asia, Europe, and Latin America together with provincial department of Culture and municipal government by the Ministry of Culture many times for cultural communication and commercial performances, making a positive contribution in promoting the friendship between China and various countries.
